INTRODUCTION
The Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission (ZBC) is autonomous body responsible for regulating the Broadcasting sectors in Zanzibar.

It was established under the Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission Regulatory Act No.7 of 1997.

OUR VISION
To acquire digital broadcasting competence and public information access towards sustainable development.

OUR MISSION
To provide advanced broadcasting services that is affordable and responsible to the public.

STRATEGIC GOAL
To provide regulatory measures in broadcasting which will see that the society has access and right to information for national prosperity, peace and tranquillity.
The objectives of the Corporation

MAIN OBJECTIVE
To acquire an informed society through competent quality programmes and broadcasting to Zanzibar and outside;
(a) provide information, education and entertainment to the public;
(b) provide radio, television broadcasting and other related services and program that contribute to social, economic, political and cultural development, with emphasis on national unit in cultural diversity;
(c) Build up a center for public information dissemination.

THE INFORMATION POLICY
It aims at facilitating a comprehensive and coordinated development of Zanzibar’s Information sector. The Information policy provides a framework for development of broadcasting among other communication sectors.

THE BOARD MEMBERS
(a) The Chairperson who shall be appointed by the President;
(b) The Director General;
(c) Director responsible for Information;
(d) A State Attorney from Attorney Generals Chambers;
(e) A member from the Ministry responsible for finance;
(f) Not more than two members from prominent Zanzibaris of proven integrity by virtue of their qualifications, expertise and experience in the fields of broadcasting, technology, administration, media law, business management, finance, and journalism appointed by the Minister.

ORGANISATION STRUCTURE
In accordance with the law of the Broadcasting Commission, the Commission is headed by a Chairperson appointed by the President and not less than four members appointed by the Minister, a state from the state attorney general's office. The commission is headed by the Executive Secretary appointed by the President and who is also the Commission Secretary.

The Secretariat of the Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission, comprises of the following units; Registrar, administration, planning, engenearing, accounting and coordination Pemba.
Zanzibar Broadcasting Commission has the following functions;
• To issue broadcasting licenses;
• To regulate and supervise broadcasting activities including but not limited to the relying of radio, television and video broadcasts from places outside Zanzibar with intention that such broadcasts received regularly in Zanzibar or the United Republic of Tanzania or any part of the World.
• To maintain a register of all persons licensed as broadcasters, dealers in broadcasting stations.
• To regulate the activities of broadcasters and their conduct of broadcasting as well as that of dealers in broadcasting apparatus.
• To be responsible for the standardisation, planning and management of the frequency spectrum available for broadcasting and to allocate such spectrum resources in such manner as to ensure the widest possible diversity of programming and optimal utilization of the spectrum resources, giving priority where possible to the broadcaster transmitting the maximum number of hours per day and to community-based broadcasters.
• To protect policy, security, culture and tradition of Zanzibar not to be destroyed,
• To inspect institutions which carry on broadcasting business
• To give any direction to the broadcasting business which in its opinion deem necessary.
